Hosta prefer some morning sun and afternoon shade to look there best. Some varieties do better in more sun than others. Genetics, amount of moisture provided, leaf thickness, how far south you live, all play a role in how well they will do.
The varieties listed below will handle a little more sun than most others. You will need to make sure they have plenty of moisture through out the summer months when the sun is directly over head. No Hosta will look the best in all day sun. They will look a little rough by the end of the season the first couple of years, but after the third year they should start to do better.
Blues will not be blue, but will be green once all the wax melts off. Yellows will bleach out and white margins and centers may burn out.
